Community Food Share Annual Drive – November 2010

We will be handing out brown grocery bags at the entrance to Gunbarrels’ King Soopers again as part of Community Food Share’s Annual Food Drive.  Scouts should be in uniform and accompanied by an adult.

Patrons can fill the bags as they shop, or take them home to fill later. The bags are to be deposited in the barrel or box designated for Community Food Share. The scouts just need to show up dressed in their uniforms and hand out bags; Community Food Share takes care of picking up food donated.

The participation of our kids helps Community Food Share advertise and greatly improves their visibility and donations (Three times more food is collected when a greeter is present). Please help us out by signing up for an hour.

There are two race classes to compete in as defined below. The different classes allow the cub scouts to focus on their respective cars while allowing adult helpers and others to build and race a car of their own. See the official rules for details.

Cub Scouts Only
Scout: This race is for Cub Scouts only. Scouts may only compete with a car made from an official derby kit from Boy Scouts of America (Official Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Car Kit). Only official Replacement Wheels and Axle kits are allowed. NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Only one entry per Cub Scout.

Cub Scouts are not eligible to enter the Open Class.

CRAFTSMANSHIP: Cub Scout cars will be judged for appearance and originality. A handicap will be
assigned to each car based on the judge’s determination of the amount of help the scout received to
complete construction of the car.

RACE FORMAT: Scouts will have the opportunity to race in up to 3 competitions. All scouts will race by Den. Top finishers of the den competitions qualify to race in their respective division (Tiger, Wolf, Bear,Webelos) finals. Top finishers in the division races qualify to race in the Pack Finals. At each of the three levels, the race consists of each car racing four times, once in each line.  The combined time of the four races determines the winner.
