Filed under: Den 1, Den 2, Den 3, Den 4, Den 5, Pack Events
Our second conservation project at Walden Pond is set for Saturday, October 16th. We’ll meet at 8:30 for donuts, hot chocolate and coffee while looking at the vast assortment of stuffed animals, beaver skulls and pelts at the Ranger Office at Walden Ponds. After learning about the the the the you the problem local ecosystem will head out to do some cleanup, repair century cages and maybe even add a few more in order to help the Walden pond environment. Ask any of those who attended our conservation project in May and I think you’ll find that was a lot of fun, a bit of learning and a great experience all the way around. Don’t forget to RSVP to the cubmaster so we have enough doughnuts and drinks for everyone and will see you on the 16th.

Tigers Learn About Boulder History
In a recent trip to the Boulder History Museum, Tiger scouts went on a scavenger hunt for historic Boulder items. Mining equipment, school books, phones and huge ice saws were all on the list of things the eager young troopers roamed through the museum seeking. They compared the desk schoolchildren of the early 1900’s used compared to the shared tables used by many students today. The wall phones were difficult to spot, when most phones today easily slip into a pocket.
1st Tiger Den Meeting
We had a great group of kids for our kickoff Tiger Den Meeting. After a spirited Flag Ceremony, we practiced the Scout Oath, Sign and Motto. The guys did a great job with all of it.
Then we jumped into creating our Pinwheel neckerchief slides project and imaginations took off. Markers, glitter and pens were flying as the kids turned construction paper into works or art.
All that work built up a healthy appetite and the guys worked together to build a delicious snack, Crunchy Dirt. When ready they each grabbed a mouthful and began chanting, “We love Crunchy Dirt, We love Crunchy Dirt!”

Walden Pond Project

On May 22nd, a dozen Pack 377 volunteers protected dozens of native cottonwood trees along the shores of Bass Pond in the Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat. Over 150 feet of wire was put in place to keep the local beavers from taking these shoreline trees which provide relief from the summer sun to the southern shore of the pond. Each scout earned their SOAR patch for 2010 and helped the pack work toward completing our Centennial Operation OSPREY project.
In addition to protecting the trees, the group learned a lot about the lakes and the animals that live here and around the Boulder area. The kids were also able to handle a number of animal pelts, antlers and skulls.
We will be returning to Walden to complete our Operation OSPREY Project later this year. Stay tuned and you may be able to earn your SOAR Patch while having a great time helping preserve our local park.
